Hi James,

I stumbled onto your blog after doing a search for "celiac, horses" as I am about to branch out into the equine world with my research.

My name is John B. Symes, DVM otherwise known as "DogtorJ" on the Internet. (Google me and you'll see where I've been over the last 8 years.)

I too am a celiac. I have been a veterinarian for almost 30 years but had a medical revelation of Biblical proportions when I found out about my gluten intolerance. I plunged into research to explain my miraculous recovery and that of my veterinary patients when I applied all of my findings to the pets I treat. This launched a new mission and career for me, the most important aspects of which are yet to come.

In your earlier postings, the question was raised whether other animals suffer from celiac disease. The answer is a resounding "YES"! We definitively diagnosed celiac disease in dogs over 30 years ago. However, as crazy as it sounds, my profession has forgotten all about it. I am certain that any simple-stomached animal (non-ruminants) can be negatively affected by today's gluten grains, as well as casein (from cow's milk), soy and corn.

I hope you will visit my site and that you get something good from it. Stay tuned...the best is yet to come! :)

John
